Description

This literature-based study explores American history from the late 1800’s through the 1960’s. Giving your students a fun overview of the inventions, historical events, and overall culture of this amazing time in history. Read about the invention of the doughnut, the light bulb, and the rocket that would land the first man on the moon! Study the science behind the sinking of the Titanic and how a Lava Lamp works! And look into the major events in history that shaped each decade – from the Harlem Renaissance to World Wars 1 & 2.

Each decade is treated as its own unit, (the late 1800’s being one unit), for a total of 8 units. Each unit is 11-15 days, making it easy to cover one decade per month. Compiled for Elementary aged students, this study does dig into some serious topics, but is done so through beautiful picture books in a way that gives more of a general overview.

This 100+ page guide includes:

– A booklist for each decade containing a novel to read aloud (or two to choose from), and a living picture book list of 20-30 books per decade.

– Family movie night suggestions

– Daily open-and-go schedule

– Notebook, timeline, and copy work prompts

– Video links to enhance learning

– A simple craft and experiment for each decade

– ‘Decade Dinner’ menu ideas for each unit, with some recipes included

– End of the year project ideas

– Charlotte Mason-style exam questions

– A Mama Booklist

– Field trip ideas
